What to do in winter holidays

This time of the year always has been rough for me, I'm pretty bad with cold weather and because of that this time of the year the last thing I'd like to do is going outside, so winter holidays are made to stay at home and chill, to catch a breath from the first half of the year and be lazy, wake up late, dont get out of bed an drink tea/coffee on the evening after lunch. However if I would go outside to take a trip for example  I'd go to a warmer place like to the north of our country (Chile)  and if so, probably my mom would be my companion since she really likes the warm weather and landscapes of places like Coquimbo, Vicuña and Copiapó. On the other hand if my trip is going to be to another country or even overseas I'd like to go with some friends, at least one of them since I've never been on another country and having a familiar face nearby would be much appreciated.

But all of that is hypotetic, this winter my plans are staying home with no plans, maybe I'd go out once or twice with my friends if something comes out, if not then I'm just gonna do my own thing at home. The one thing I wish for is to NOT having to study, having a good result on the final submissions is my goal right now and if it goes well, I'll be one happy student this holidays.

What is a Bucket List?

Seriously what is it? I've never hear or read that sentence before, for me it was a "to do list" until now but well, it seems that it's essentialy the same thing. About the things that I really want to do or things that are a must for me, i'd say that going abroad is something that i've always have dream of, also having my own house or some place that I can call mine and count that it will always be there when I need it. One thing that I would love to do is to make a name for myself, like doing something big or great in my life, something that will make people remember me and who I was, but that seems like asking too much and a pain to get to that point, nowadays I'd have enough with making a diference for a single person, maybe my significant other if I get one someday. Honestly there aren't many things that I plan or look out for in my future, living day by day is what I go for most of the time, kinda boring I know but is a peacefull and more chill way of living that most of people goes by on times like these.

About watching TV as a kid

Television used to be a huge thing until recent years, it was the main source of media that most people choose to consume and it had a great impact on the house has a whole, bringing families together or making them fight about what would they watch next, that would happen with the main T.V. on the living room wich in most cases was the only one on the house. T.V. used to be fundamental has a source of entertaiment for the kids, when they came home after school, it was there when some channels (national channels) would air some cartoons or anime for them to watch. That was how I knew about One Piece, an anime production that has undoubtedly affected my life for the better and that I've watched since I was like 4 or 5 years old until now, since this anime is still on air. This particular series caught my attention because it was about a romantic adventure with friends traveling across the world, working together to accomplish their individual goals and the dream of their Captain, cause their're pirates after all. This is the main reason because i like anime in general so much, it has beautifull and fantastic stories but also very well written and relatable characters, charismatic, dreadful, funny, etc. It's a type of media with a great amount of genres and titles for everyone to enjoy, people just need to put their preconceptions away and give it a chance.

English at the University

Well it is very well known that as time passes the world is getting more conected and globalized and so learning a common languaje becomes a must, in this case, English as is probably the most extended languaje followed by Spanish I think. The fact that the University requires us to take English lessons as part of any study programm is much apreciated, cause in the end they're helping us a lot even if most of people sees this lectures has a burden. In my case this lessons are valuable because i get to practice speaking in English, there aren't many oportunities on my daily life to speak to someone in another languaje, even if im constatly consuming media from English speaking content creators on Youtube or Twich. The thing with these blogs it's that forces us to think about topics or situations and make a statement or commentary about it and that is usefull since requieres a lot of thought and vocabulary to make a post but it can be a burden or kinda boring if the topic isn't interesting. Personally the speaking aspect of English is something that I need practice on, it was evident to me when we where asked to record videos or ourselves talking to the camera about a certain topic but i'm confident that if I where to go abroad I can get the point across to whoever i'm speaking with.

CHANGES TO MY STUDY PROGRAMME

Okay, so this topic in particular it's a very hard one to talk about for me because my career had a big innovation process just a couple years ago, being the first one on a big scale because they had a change that involved teachers, administrative people and students from different years and from the 3 mentions that our career has. Anthropology with his 3 "paths" to choose from the 3rd year onwards makes this whole innovation thing much more complex and time consuming for everyone involved. Since this process started when I was on my 3rd year already things didn´t really changed for me at that time but because things happened  in the recent years now I'm having one of those improved subjects and honestly it's much better now, the workload is now reduced because that one subject is and was one of the latest and now is splited on two wich makes it much easier and aprochable in terms of homework and reading. I´d say that the curriculum is fine, is pretty "local" in a way that we learn about the great civilizations on the first years and is more like an introduction to Archaeology but later the knowledge is much more focused on local contexts from Chile and Latinoamerica in general, this curriculum is very oriented to teach us the fundamental on theory and Archaeologycal record, and then proceed to put it on a local context. Something I think is key to keep improving this discipline in our University is to get more research facilities, especially laboratories to analise what we bring out of our excavations and prospections, having some advanced tecnology would be awesome too, so we dont need to send samples or specimens to foreing labs (wich are pretty expensive and sometimes kinda slow).

We going back boys

Being able to travel in time is an idea that has been explored since many decades ago if no centuries, it has been a recurrent topic in literature, cinema and videogames and I would say that's because we all have something that we dream about, something to see with or own eyes, something that already happened or something that is still unkown. Personally, if I had to choose between going to the past or the future i'd choose going backwards in time because there's way too many cool things that are part of history and even more stuff happened if we start considering the prehistory and that is precisely where i'd go because, as an archeologyst there are many things that i wanna know or experience myself. For example i would love to see the Library of Alexandria before it was burned down, or watch the first encounter between the native americans and the europeans, a deathmatch on the Roman Colosseum and the first train ever put on rails on it's first run.

But even if I could go back in time, staying there wouldn't be an option, as much as I like the past and the process that, as humanity, lead us at this point of history I'm more fond of living the present day by day, with hopes and dreams of a brighter tomorrow.

About jobs and future plans

The topic of jobs and what people have planned for their future is often uncertain and messy, not many people have a clear idea of the next thing they want to do, most of them know where they want to get, but the middle part, the process to get to, that's what is harder to picture. In my case i've been a lucky person cause my current studies is what I wanted to do, I'm not in college because "is what it has to be done" but because I choose to be here, Archaeology is my passion and what I enjoy the most about it is going out to do field work.

In any case, something I would enjoy doing as a job, or at least trying to do is to have a restaurant or a bakery in another country, i've always dream on living overseas in Japan or Australia -mainly Japan- and I wouldn't mind a fresh start there with a bakery if doing archaelogy isn´t an option. I'd like to have a place of my own but that's kinda hard, it means a lot of work in terms of management and finances, things that i would need to learn beforehand to have a chance of success, and then we have the actual thing, learning recipes and try to make them more unique and appealing to the customers to gain a spot on the local stage.

If we where to talk about the money honestly I dont need that much, I'm ok with a small place, nice food, good internet and a little extra to spend on my hobbies, no car, no expensive clothes, just keep it simple.
